What’s Under Your Arms

Homemade Deodorant

As you put on Deodorant daily, do you stop and think, “Is it safe for my skin?”

In most anti-perspirents there’s a long list of risky chemicals including aluminum or “alum”  a heavy metal toxin known to have a link to Alzheimer’s disease.

Whatever you put on your skin it is quickly absorbed into your body.

Making a homemade non-toxic deodorant is very simple and inexpensive.

I have made two different recipes, one with only 3 simple house-hold ingredients and one that stays solid even in the summer.

If you’ve been strictly using antiperspirant, your body will have to go through an adjustment period. Your body was made to sweat which is one way it rids itself of toxins. The main concern is keeping the natural bacteria we have growing all over our skin in check. Too much bacteria can cause the unpleasant orders we’d like to avoid. Natural deodorants help keep the bacteria and odors in check.

Why put toxins on your skin especially where your body is made to release them?

Simple 3 Ingredient Deodorant

1/2 C.  Coconut Oil, expeller pressed, softened

1/2 C. Baking Soda (aluminum-free) or Arrow Root Powder

5 Drops of Essential Oils, ( optional ) lavender, orange or any floral sent for ladies; cedar wood, clove, pine etc. for the men.

Mix together thoroughly and fill an empty deodorant container or any container that you can fit your fingers in to scoop it out for use.

Deodorant is ready for use as long as the coconut oil is not liquid, refrigerate it until it becomes more solid.

In warmer months or climates, you’ll need to keep this deodorant in the fridge since coconut oil is a liquid at 75º or at a warm room temp.

Melting coconut oil and bee’s wax.

Solid Even in the Summer Deodorant

1/2 C.  Coconut Oil, expeller pressed (so there’s no chemicals used in processing)

1/4 C. Bee’s wax, grated or use pellets ( so it will melt )

 2 T. Shea Butter

3 T. Baking Soda or Arrow Root Powder, or a combo of the two

8 Drops of Essential Oils: lavender or any floral sent for ladies; cedar wood, clove, pine etc. for the men.

Melt bee’s wax in a double broiler or we use a glass pyrex measuring cup in a pot of water over medium heat.

Add shea butter stir to melt together, next stir in baking soda or arrow root and essential oils.

Pour into 2 empty deodorant containers and let set for about 2 hours before use.

Homemade deodorant

I have sensitive skin and surprisingly the arrow root irritated my skin, so I had to just use Baking Soda in mine. These recipes are pretty simple and should work on most skin types, but test out what works best for you and your family.

If your diet is low in sugar and processed foods you wont be as prone to a high candida bacteria overgrowth. Candida overgrowth can lead to more body oder along with many other health problems.
